Summary

This unit focuses on graphs; the transformation of graphs and the interpretation of non-linear graphs in kinematic contexts.  In the first two lessons, students meet each of four different transformations of graphs, understanding the impact of each transformation.  They apply the transformations to graphs of linear, quadratic and cubic functions.  A dynamic approach to the teaching of this unit supports students in the visualisation of these transformations.  In lesson 3 students apply their learning on transformations, considering the impact of repeated transformations and examining the impact on the equation of the transformed graph.  The second half of the unit looks at non-linear graphs, examining how to find a gradient by drawing a tangent and interprets this gradient in context as a rate of change. Further work on rates of change continues in lesson 6 where a variety of rates of change are explored and interpreted in the different contexts.  The area under a graph is considered and interpreted within the context of the question.   Finally, kinematic graphs are considered, drawn and interpreted with students’ applying their learning from the unit.

What people say...

The worksheets relating to each part of the unit are excellent for consolidation.

Python Challenge - if it's anything like PG Online's Learning to program in Python book, it'll be a cracker. I have spent £100's on Python books, PM Heathcote's is by far the best I have come across.
