Summary

Updated for the 2025 AAQ specification. 

These resources cover all the specification points for ‘B Transmitting Data’ in the specification. They includeeight topics plus an end-of-unit assessment. Each of the topics contain enough content for one to two lessons of material in addition to appropriate case studies and scenarios to help demonstrate the use of IT in business and industry. The first two topics consider connectivity and the implications and impact of connection types. Topic three considers the different network topologies that are commonly encountered using real-world scenarios. The following two topics then look at different types of network and the factors affecting the choice of network. Topic six looks at different protocols and other issues related to the transmission of data. Topic six covers the file types that students need an awareness of along with compression. Finally, the last topic covers drawing system diagrams for networks. After the final topic there is an opportunity for students to sit an assessment test comprising questions of a similar style to those found on the BTEC unit 1 exam paper.
