Meet Crest! At your service...

To whom do students ask questions when they are not in class?

CREST, the ClearRevise Exam Study Tutor, is an AI engine specially designed for school students using ClearRevise guides. Students have only a handful of lessons per subject a week at best. Private tutors are costly and usually only used for core subjects once or twice a week. Outside those times, homework and additional revision often requires asking questions of others, but who? Parents who last did their GCSEs decades ago? Friends who may be similarly uncertain? Or Crest...?

Book contents embedded within the Crest engine

For the first time, the contents of a book, in this case, each subject revision guide, has been embedded within the tutor so it knows everything that students may refer to. Students can ask Crest questions about their books and refer to specific questions, figures and calculations for help. Crest can also respond to questions with relevant page references to help students find more information more quickly.

Tailored to the scope of each exam specification

Since the exam tutor knows the content of each book, it also knows the scope of the course and the contents of the specification. Unlike other forms of AI engine, this ensures that its responses are reliable, relevant and pitched at the right level in helping with homework or in preparing students for their exam. If they want to know more or less about a topic however, there are easy options to simplify or expand a response, all at a level of language they are comfortable reading.

Language adjusted for reading age

In contrast to traditional search engines results, the language of all responses is adjusted for students in their mid-teens according to common reading index scores to help match their general literacy level. The SMOG and Flesch-Kincaid reading levels have been adjusted for students of around 14 years of age. The length of responses has also been condensed so that they fit on a smartphone or desktop screen with ease and are easy to understand.

A modern accompaniment

Today’s students seek information in different formats and from different sources simultaneously. They like to switch from one thing to the next to vary their revision and maintain interest. Crest forms the perfect accompaniment to any ClearRevise guide and provides valuable support for those underachieving. It can help find information in the book, it can refer to pages in the book, it can help with questions in the book or it can help with homework questions relating to the content in the books.

Increase confidence and contribution in class

Teachers welcome class contributions from students. It helps inform them of understanding and progress, and it creates a more wholesome atmosphere for learning.

Students can ask Crest even the most basic questions they need to ask without feeling any embarrassment. Like asking someone’s name a second time, maybe there are bits they have already covered in class that they can’t bear to ask their teacher again.  Crest won’t judge. This improves confidence and the level of contribution in subsequent lessons.
